Who Is Rolia Manyongai-Jones?
Rolia Manyongai-Jones is a Liberian immigrant, retired Portland elementary school teacher, and the founder and artistic director of the Kúkátónón Children's African Dance Troupe, which she started in 1983. For decades, the troupe has performed traditional African dance at Trail Blazers playoff games, schools, universities, and community events across Portland and southwest Washington, sharing African heritage and culture with multicultural audiences.
Beyond the classroom and the dance studio, Rolia became a Rip City icon in her own right. As a longtime Trail Blazers season-ticket holder, she's spent over 30 years dancing in vibrant, traditional African outfits at games — routinely caught on the JumboTron and celebrated by fans and the team alike. In 2020, she was honored alongside Trail Blazers legend Bill Schonely as part of the city's official "Rip City Day" proclamation, recognizing her as one of the fan faces who helped define the Trail Blazers community.
